Trong xã hội truyền thống, gia đình có vai trò gần như tuyệt đối trong việc giáo dục trẻ đặc biệt là trẻ ở lứa tuổi nhỏ. Ngày nay, mặc dù có những tác động to lớn của các lớp mẫu giáo, nhà trẻ, trường học và các đoàn thể nhưng gia đình vẫn giữ vị trí quan trọng trong việc giáo dục và phát triển trí thông minh ở trẻ em. Cha mẹ giữ vai trò quyết định trong việc cung cấp và tạo điều kiện cung cấp những tri thức khoa học cũng như thực tiễn cho trẻ cả về số lượng và chất lượng. Gia đình là chiếc nôi ươm trồng và nuôi dưỡng trí tuệ, tình cảm và nhân cách cho trẻ em. Điều đó phụ thuộc rất nhiều vào trình độ học vấn, vào khả năng kinh tế, vào việc họ tiếp thu nền văn hoá nhân loại như thế nào và quan niệm chung của họ về thang giá trị đạo đức, văn hoá, lối sống.

In traditional society, the family has almost absolute role in the education of young children-especially in small age. Today, despite the tremendous impact of the kindergarten, kindergartens, schools and unions but the family still hold important positions in the education and development of intelligence in children. The parents hold the decisive role in providing and facilitating the provision of scientific knowledge as well as practical for children both in number and quality. The family is the cradle nursery planting and nurturing the intellectual, emotional and personality for children. That depends very much on education level, economic ability, they assimilate into cultures of humanity and the common concept of moral value scale, culture, way of life.

That depends a lot on education, on economic possibilities, on whether they acquire human culture and how their general conception of the moral scale of values, culture and lifestyle.
