Dinh Độc Lập có diện tích sử dụng 20.000 m2, gồm 3 tầng chính, 2 gác lửng, sân thượng, tầng hầm với khoảng 100 phòng, mỗi phòng được trang trí nội thất khác nhau. Nơi đây từng là cơ quan đầu não của chính quyền Sài Gòn cũ, nơi ở của gia đình Tổng thống Nguyễn Văn Thiệu.

Ngô Đình Diệm cho xây công trình này từ năm 1962, xây dựng lại từ Dinh Norodom cũ. Đồ án thiết kế tòa nhà là của kiến trúc sư Ngô Viết Thụ, người Việt Nam đầu tiên đoạt giải Khôi nguyên La Mã (Grand Prix de Rome), giải thưởng cao nhất của trường Mỹ thuật Paris.

The independence has an area of 20,000 m2, including use of the 3 main floor, 2 mezzanine, terrace, cellar with about 100 rooms, each room is furnished differently. It is the brain of the former Saigon Government, the residence of the family of President Nguyen Van Thieu.NGO Dinh Diem for this work from 1962, rebuilt from the former Norodom Nutrition. Projects of the building was designed by architect Ngo Written, who first won the Vietnam Roman Khoi Nguyen (Grand Prix de Rome), the highest award of the school of fine arts in Paris.

Ngo Dinh Diem to build this project in 1962, rebuilt from the former Norodom Palace. Development of design of the building is the architect Ngo Viet Thu, the first Vietnam Roman Prize laureate (Grand Prix de Rome), the highest award of the Paris School of Fine Arts.
