Với khoảng 35 triệu lao động, nông thôn Việt Nam hiện chiếm 76% số lao động của cả nước. Hội Nông dân Việt Nam và các địa phương rất coi trọng công tác dạy nghề và tạo việc làm cho nông dân nhằm đáp ứng các yêu cầu về phát triển con người, cơ cấu lại kinh tế, phân công lao động, tổ chức lại sản xuất theo hướng công nghiệp hóa, hiện đại hóa. Các trung tâm dạy nghề của Hội đã đào tạo cán bộ quản lý, báo cáo viên, giảng viên để thực hiện công tác khuyến nông với các hình thức đa dạng như dạy nghề dài hạn, ngắn hạn, dạy nghề tại chỗ, hội thảo đầu bờ, lấy nông dân dạy nông dân, chuyển giao khoa học-kỹ thuật cho nông dân, triển khai các dự án "hướng dẫn người nghèo làm ăn"... Ngoài ra, các trung tâm dạy nghề cũng phối kết hợp với các công ty cung ứng lao động xuất khẩu để giải quyết việc làm cho lao động nông dân. Nhờ nỗ lực đó, hàng chục vạn lao động thuần nông chuyển ngành nghề khác. Riêng trong năm ngoái, hơn 1,1 triệu nông dân đã tham gia học nghề, tăng 7,3% so với năm trước, trong đó 70% học viên tìm được việc làm.
