Những sản phẩm nông nghiệp độc hại, các mỗi đe doạ từ sản phẩm nông nghiệp đến sức khoẻ người tiêu dùng hoặc ô nhiễm môi trường (nước, không khí, đất,...) là kết quả của sự lạm dụng quá mức cho phép các sản phẩm thuốc trừ sâu, thuốc diệt cỏ vào quá trình sản xuất các sản phẩm nông nghiệp và đây là mối đe doạ cũng là điều đáng quan tâm nhất bởi sự nghiêm trọng trong nền nông nghiệp tại Việt Nam (Takuro et al., 2009). Theo Baomoi (2009), theo cuộc khảo sát của một bộ phận quản lý có thẩm quyền, trong tổng sản lượng rau được tiêu thụ hằng ngày trên thị trường hiện nay, có hơn 82% sản phẩm thực vật không đạt tiêu chuẩn an toàn vệ sinh thực phẩm được sử dụng mỗi ngày. Nguyên nhân chủ yếu của vấn đề có nhiều sản phẩm độc hại được bán trên thị trường là do sự hiểu biết của nông dân còn hạn chế. Họ chỉ biết đến doanh thu và số tiền nhiều nhất có thể tìm được trong một vụ mùa nên họ đã sử dụng nhiều loại hoá chất độc hại vào sản xuất để đạt được lợi nhuận cao. Theo báo cáo về một chuyến khảo sát của Luke và Steffanie (2007) tại ĐBSCL, họ cho biết rằng nông dân tại ĐBSCL đã sử dụng một lượng lớn các hoá chất độc hại cũng như là một lượng lớn thuốc trừ sâu nồng độ cao vào trồng trọt hằng ngày.

According to the report on a survey of Luke and Steffanie (2007) in the MEKONG DELTA, they said that farmers in the MEKONG DELTA has used a large amount of toxic chemicals as well as a large number of high concentrations of pesticides in cultivation.
