Những năm gần đây, công tác quản lý không gian - kiến trúc – cảnh quan ngày càng được quan tâm hơn, nhiều khu vực được nghiên cứu về nhu cầu lập TKĐT. Trong số đó, đồ án TKĐT riêng tỷ lệ 1/500 đường Trường Sơn – Phan Đình Giót – Trần Quốc Hoàn, quận Tân Bình đã được phê duyệt. Bên cạnh đó, các khu vực dọc hai tuyến đường cao tốc Thành phố HCM - Long Thành - Dầu Giây và Quốc lộ 1 cũng đang được triển khai lập đồ án TKĐT riêng tỷ lệ 1/500.
Nhìn chung, các đồ án TKĐT hiện nay có chung một đặc điểm là đối tượng thiết kế là các tuyến đường mở mới hoặc mở rộng, chỉnh trang.
b. Một số khó khăn và bất cập
Thông qua tình hình TKĐT tại Thành phố như trên, có thể thấy rằng vị trí của TKĐT đã được khẳng định trong hệ thống pháp lý Việt Nam
