Bản sắc văn hóa, giá trị truyền thống dân tộc là những cột trụ của mỗi quốc gia. Không ý thức được gốc rễ, cội nguồn, thanh niên sẽ dễ dàng bị "hòa tan" trong một thế giới đa chiều như hiện nay. Giờ đây nước ta đã gia nhập Tổ chức thương mại thế giới. Bên cạnh những thuận lợi thật khó tránh khỏi những tác động mặt trái thời hậu WTO đến các mặt của đời sống người dân nói chung, trong đó có lĩnh vực văn hóa mà thanh niên là đối tượng bị tác động trực tiếp. Thực tế đã có không ít trường hợp thanh niên lao vào lối sống hưởng thụ, chạy theo vật chất, lười lao động, thiếu ý thức tôn trọng pháp luật, thờ ơ với cộng đồng, xã hội. Đó là lối sống, đi ngược những giá trị truyền thống tốt đẹp của dân tộc. Do vậy, tăng cường giáo dục, nâng cao ý thức cội nguồn, truyền thống dân tộc, tình yêu nước cho thanh niên là nhiệm vụ không kém phần quan trọng trong giai đoạn hiên nay. Làm sao "hòa nhập" nhưng không "hòa tan" là một trong những nhiệm vụ mà tổ chức Đoàn với vai trò và trách nhiệm của mình cần quan tâm thực hiện.
