ĐẶc biệt hoạt động đầu tiên của năm apec 2017 là Hội nghị không chính thức các quan chức cấp cao apec (ISOM) tại Việt nam vào đầu tháng 12 năm 2016 và tuần lễ cấp cao apec diễn ra vào tháng 11 năm 2017, với sự tham gia của lãnh đạo 21 nền kinh tế thành viên, nhiều đoàn quan sát viên và khoảng 10,000 đại biểu, phóng viên báo chí, doanh nghiệp trong nước và quốc tế tham dự.

Ban vận động tài trợ để tổ chức Năm apec viêt nam 2017 được thành lập theo quyết định số 81/sss ngày 16 tháng 5 năm 2016 của chủ tịch ủy ban quốc gia apec 2017 có nhiệm vụ vận động các doanh nghiệp, các tổ chức cá nhân tài trợ kinh phí, hiện vật hoặc dịch vụ để góp phần tổ chức thành công năm apec việt nam 2017
