Indonesia đã đưa ra khẩu hiệu “Bhinneka Tunggal Ika”. Nghĩa đen của khẩu hiệu này là: “nhiều nhưng là một”, nội hàm này cũng có thể hiểu là “thống nhất trong đa dạng”. Khi nghiên cứu, các nhà nghiên cứu thường mượn ngữ nghĩa của khẩu hiệu này để mô tả hiện trạng bức tranh văn hóa của các dân tộc Đông Nam Á.
