Phát biểu khai trương “Góc Việt Nam” tại Đại học Jadavpur, Phó Hiệu trưởng nhà trường, Giáo sư Suranjan Das giới thiệu về lịch sử và quá trình hình thành của nhà trường và cho biết Đại học Jadavpur được chính thức thành lập từ năm 1955 và là trường đại học lớn và lâu đời thuộc bang Tây Bengal, đồng thời cũng là 1 trong số 5 trường đại học danh tiếng nhất của Ấn Độ. Hiện có khoảng hơn 10.000 sinh viên theo học tại nhà trường và nghiên cứu ở nhiều lĩnh vực khác nhau từ chính trị, kinh tế, văn hóa cho đến kỹ thuật.
Giáo sư Suranjan Das nhấn mạnh, Ấn Độ - Việt Nam có mối quan hệ truyền thống, hữu nghị lâu đời và nhân dân thành phố Kolkata nói riêng cũng như bang Tây Bengal nói chung luôn sát cánh và ủng hộ cuộc đấu tranh giải phóng của nhân dân Việt Nam trong quá khứ, cũng như mong muốn thúc đẩy và phát triển quan hệ, hợp tác giữa hai nước.
Ông Suranjan cho rằng việc mở “Góc sách Việt Nam” là hoạt động thiết thực, góp phần thúc đẩy sự nghiên cứu, tìm hiểu của sinh viên và giới trẻ Ấn Độ về lịch sử và văn hóa của Việt Nam, qua đó tăng cường quan hệ hợp tác giữa hai nước, nhất là trong bối cảnh chính phủ Ấn Độ đang đẩy mạnh triển khai chính sách “Hành động hướng Đông”.
