Trong niềm vui của sự bình an và sung túc, Lễ Tạ Ơn luôn là dịp để giúp người nghèo khó. Nhớ lại 47 người đã chết trong mùa Đông đầu tiên, các con cái Chúa luôn dùng dịp này để giúp những người nghèo khó. Nhiều nhà thờ thường tổ chức những bữa ăn nóng giúp những người vô gia cư trong thành phố. Có khi hàng tháng trước đó, hội thánh đặt những hộp quyên tiền, những thùng quyên thức ăn, quần áo ấm để giúp đỡ những người nghèo. Những thứ quyên góp được có thể dành cho những người nghèo trong thành phố, có khi được gói lại cẩn thận gởi đến những quốc gia nghèo xa xôi.
