Năm 2012, Bộ Y tế đã có Quyết định số 3671/QĐ-BYT về Hướng dẫn kiểm soát nhiễm khuẩn trong cơ sở khám chữa bệnh nhằm tăng cường việc thực hiện dự phòng phổ cập và kiểm soát nhiễm khuẫn trong các cơ sở y tế. Trên cơ sở đó, hầu hết các bệnh viện đã thành lập đơn vị chống nhiễm khuẩn và triển khai các hoạt động phòng chống nhiễm khuẩn tại bệnh viện. Việc không dùng chung bơm, kim tiêm trong điều trị cho bệnh nhân đã được thực hiện trong các bệnh viện. Tuy nhiên, chất lượng và tính đầy đủ trong việc thực hành các biện pháp kiểm soát nhiễm khuẩn như tiêm vô khuẩn, tiệt trùng trang thiết bị, sử dụng các vật dụng dùng một lần khi tiêm truyền chưa được ghi nhận một cách có hệ thống.
