Quy trình dạy Viết thực hiện theo 3 bước sau:
a) Trước khi viết (Pre-writing)
· Giới thiệu bài viết mẫu (phần a).
· Yêu cầu học sinh đọc kĩ để viết
· Giáo viên cần làm rõ nghĩa từ mới và mẫu câu.
b) Trong khi viết (While-writing)
· Giáo viên nêu yêu cầu bài viết (phần b) và có thể cho gợi ý.
· Học sinh thảo luận theo cặp hoặc nhóm, sau đó học sinh tự viết.
· Học sinh cần bám sát bài viết mẫu, các gợi ý để viết theo yêu cầu.
· Giáo viên gọi vài học sinh trình bày bài viết trước lớp.
· Giáo viên sửa lỗi và đưa ra đáp án.
c) Sau khi viết (Post-writing)
· Học sinh có thể trình bày lại bài viết (dưới dạng nói).
· Giáo viên có thể yêu cầu học sinh viết một bài theo tình huống gợi ý tương tự
Nói chung, các bài luyện viết thường bắt đầu bằng một bài mẫu ở mục a). Thông qua hoạt động đọc hiểu, học sinh nắm bắt cách trình bày viết một bài viết theo mục đích hay yêu cầu nhất định. Phần b) sẽ là phần học sinh thực hiện các bài tập viết theo yêu cầu đề ra, có hướng dẫn, hoặc có gợi ý; sau đó là bài viết mở rộng mang tính sáng tạo và tự do hơn.
- Để thực hiện bài này, giáo viên cần làm tốt phần hướng dẫn mẫu qua các bài tập đọc và phát hiện, sau đó giải thích yêu cầu bài viết.
- Cần làm rõ tình huống và yêu cầu bài viết. Nên cho các gợi ý nếu cần. Để làm tốt phần gợi ý, nên khai thác sự đóng góp ý kiến của cả lớp hay nhóm trước khi học sinh làm việc cá nhân.
- Nhìn chung, để tiết kiệm thời gian trên lớp, các bài tập viết sau khi đã hướng dẫn, đều có thể dành làm bài tập về nhà và chữa tại lớp.
