Theo đánh giá của Bộ công thương trong thời gian qua, ngành nhựa Việt Nam có tốc độ tăng trưởng khá nhanh và đã trở thành những ngành công nghiệp hỗ trợ của Việt Nam. Cả nước có hơn 1.200 doanh nghiệp sản xuất kinh doanh ngành nhựa với khoảng 120.000 lao động, thuộc các ngành sản xuất bao bì, nhựa gia dụng, nhựa vật liệu xây dựng, nhựa kĩ thuật…. Về việc quy hoạch phát triển ngành nhựa Việt Nam trong vài năm tới, phấn đấu giá trị sản xuất công nghiệp ngành nhựa đạt 78.000 tỉ đồng, năm 2020 đạt 181.577 tỉ đồng và tới năm 2025 là 390.000 tỉ đồng.
