• Cấp nước: Phát triển đáp ứng tốc độ phát triển đô thị bảo đảm độ bao phủ theo kế hoạch đặt ra theo định hướng đến 2025 và tầm nhìn đến 2050. (Đang hoàn chỉnh bổ sung)
- Đẩy mạnh áp dụng tiến bộ khoa học, công nghệ chú trọng hiệu quả quàn lý; nâng cao hiệu suất; Tiết kiệm năng lượng;Tự động hóa; Sử dụng vật tư, thiết bị, nâng cao hiệu suất, Phòng chống rủi ro hệ thống ( cấp nước an toàn) và chống thất thoát. Sử dụng các phần mềm tin học tiên tiến trong quản lý hệ thống, quản lý mạng, quản lý kinh tế…
- Các Giải pháp ứng phó với biến đổi khí hậu, ảnh hưởng của phát triển thủy điện làm nguy cơ nhiễm mặn tăng nhanh tại đồng bằng sông Cửu Long, Nhà nước đang lập phương án xây dựng một số nhà máy nước cấp cho liên vùng.
- Miền Trung hạn nặng ngày càng tăng, nguồn nước ngầm ngày càng cạn kiệt.
- Miền Bắc một số dòng sông chính bị ô nhiễm ( Sông Đáy, Sông Cầu, Sông Hồng…) Các tỉnh vùng núi nguồn nước rất khó khăn về mùa khô
• Thoát nước: Nâng cao độ bao phủ dịch vụ; Chống úng ngập đô thị đặc biệt là Hà Nội, Thành phố Hồ Chí Minh.
- Đẩy mạnh xử lý nước thải đô thị ( tăng thêm 10% trong 5 năm tới), chú trọng lựa chọn công nghệ thích hợp; Hạn chế tác động đến đời sống do ô nhiễm từ bùn thải, mùi hôi; dảm bảo tiêu chuẩn trước khi xả thải ra môi trường.
- Tái tạo năng lượng từ phế thải..
- Tăng cường xây dựng các thống thoát nước riêng nhất là các đô thị mới.
- Quản lý chặt chẽ xả thải các khu công nghiệp để môi trường không bị ô nhiễm. .( 300 khu công nghiệp,nhưng mới có khoảng 60% có Hệ thống XLNT bảo đảm yêu cầu)
