Chiều dày tảng cỏ phải càng đều càng tốt, khoảng chừng 40mm hoặc lớn hơn phụ thuộc vào tính tự nhiên của tảng cỏ. Gốc, rễ của cỏ được bảo quản một cách thận trọng để tảng cỏ không bị đứt hoặc bị vỡ .
