Theo lời mời của Phó Thủ tướng, Bộ trưởng Ngoại giao Phạm Bình Minh, Bộ trưởng Ngoại giao và Kinh tế Đối ngoại Hungary Szijjártó Peter thăm chính thức Việt Nam từ ngày 11 đến 13/01/2016.
Phát biểu tại cuộc hội đàm; Phó Thủ tướng, Bộ trưởng Bộ Ngoại giao Phạm Bình Minh đã nhấn mạnh chuyến thăm có ý nghĩa quan trọng trong việc củng cố, thúc đẩy quan hệ hữu nghị và hợp tác truyền thống giữa Việt Nam và Hungary .
Bộ trưởng Ngoại giao và Kinh tế Đối ngoại Hungary hoan nghênh những thành tựu kinh tế đối ngoại của Việt Nam trong những năm qua; đồng thời đánh giá cao vị thế và vai trò của Việt Nam ở khu vực và quốc tế; Bộ trưởng cũng bày tỏ mong muốn hai nước tiếp tục phát triển quan hệ hữu nghị truyền thống và hợp tác hiệu quả. Hai Bên đã trao đổi và thống nhất phương hướng và biện pháp tăng cường hợp tác song phương trên các lĩnh vực như chính trị - ngoại giao, thương mại - đầu tư, văn hóa – nghệ thuật, giáo dục - đào tạo, hợp tác - phát triển, quốc phòng - an ninh.
Hai Bên nhất trí duy trì trao đổi đoàn, nhất là các đoàn cấp cao; tiếp tục phối hợp chặt chẽ, hiệu quả tại các diễn đàn quốc tế và khu vực, đặc biệt là tại Liên hợp quốc và trong khuôn khổ diễn đàn hợp tác Á - Âu. Bộ trưởng Ngoại giao và Kinh tế Đối ngoại Szijjártó Peter khẳng định ủng hộ việc EU và Việt Nam sớm ký chính thức Hiệp định thương mại tự do Việt Nam – EU (EVFTA) và EU công nhận quy chế kinh tế thị trường của Việt Nam.
Phó Thủ tướng, Bộ trưởng Phạm Bình Minh khẳng định Việt Nam luôn khuyến khích các doanh nghiệp Hungary mở rộng đầu tư vào các lĩnh vực Việt Nam đang có nhu cầu như xây dựng hạ tầng, tái tạo năng lượng, xử lý môi trường công nghệ cao, chế biến thực phẩm và sản xuất dược phẩm.
Hai bên cũng đã trao đổi về các vấn đề quốc tế và khu vực cùng quan tâm, nhất trí phát huy hơn nữa vai trò của mỗi bên trong việc thúc đẩy kết nối, tăng cường hợp tác giữa khu vực Đông Nam Á - Trung Đông Âu nói riêng cũng như quan hệ ASEAN - EU nói chung./.
