Tôi với thằng bạn đen đen, tròn tròn, bé bé thay phiên nhau đứng nhất. Cứ nó nhất tôi nhì, nó nhì tôi nhất. Nhưng hai đứa chẳng tị nạnh hay ghét bỏ nhau bao giờ, gặp nhau là cười toe toét. Đúng là tinh thần cạnh tranh lành mạnh! Lên cấp hai, cuộc tranh đua cũng diễn ra tương tự nhưng là với một đứa bạn gái da trắng, tóc dài xinh xắn. Lên cấp ba, tôi học lớp chuyên không có xếp hạng, nên tôi chuyển sang mục tiêu đạt học sinh giỏi mỗi học kỳ (trên 8,0). Dẫu cho lúc đó tôi chưa hình dung được những gì to lớn hơn, 12 năm đi học của tôi chưa bao giờ vô vị cũng chính là nhờ những mục tiêu ấy.
