Nhiệm vụ cụ thể của Văn phòng điều phối Trung Ương như sau. Đầu tiên là xây dựng kế hoạch thực hiện chương trình của Ban Chỉ đạo Trung Ương, nhận chỉ thị của giám độc văn phòng điều phối chuẩn bị nội dung, chương trình và các loại báo cáo cho các cuộc họp và diễn đàn. Thứ hai, xây dựng kế hoạch triển khai dự án chương trình xây dựng nông thôn mới, lập kế hoach điều chỉnh, giám sát, quản lý, hỗ trợ của các cơ quan và chính phủ địa phương tham gia dự án. Thứ ba, nghiên cứu, đề xuất cơ chế, chính sách và cơ chế phối hợp hoạt động liên ngành để thực hiện có hiệu quả Chương trình xây dựng nông thôn mới.
