• Mục tiêu 2016 - 2020:
95% dân số nông thôn được sử dụng nước sinh hoạt hợp vệ sinh, trong đó 55% đạt QCVN02:2009/BYT.
100% trường học và trạm y tế xã có công trình cấp nước và nhà tiêu HVS.
75% số hộ gia đình ở nông thôn có nhà tiêu hợp vệ sinh.
• Nhiệm vụ trọng tâm giai đoạn 2016 - 2020
1. Nâng cao hiệu quả quản lý công trình theo hướng bền vững
- Tổ chức các lớp tập huấn cho các tỉnh về quản lý vận hành các công trình cấp nước do cộng đồng quản lý.
- Phối hợp với Bộ Tài chính chỉ đạo các địa phương thực hiện hoàn thành Thông tư 54, làm căn cứ xác định giá trị tài sản của các công trình đã đầu tư và chuyển đổi mô hình quản lý đối với các công trình hoạt động kém hiệu quả;
- Chỉ đạo thực hiện Thông tư liên tịch số 75/2012/TTLT-BTC-BXD-BNN ngày 15/05/2012 về hướng dẫn nguyên tắc, phương pháp giá nước sạch tại các đô thị, khu công nghiệp và khu vực nông thôn;
- Xây dựng Kế hoạch tổng thể để nâng cao hiệu quả quản lý, khai thác các công trình cấp nước sau đầu tư; ưu tiên các tỉnh còn có tỷ lệ các công trình cấp nước kém bền vững, tập trung ở các tỉnh Miền núi phía Bắc và Tây nguyên;
2. Thúc đẩy triển khai cấp nước qui mô hộ gia đình
- Xây dựng kế hoạch hành động Quốc gia về cấp và trữ nước hộ gia đình nông thôn để chỉ đạo các địa phương quan tâm hơn nữa đến giải pháp cấp nước hộ gia đình ở những vùng khó khăn về nguồn nước, không phù hợp để xây dựng các công trình cấp nước tập trung (dân cư thưa thớt, thiếu nguồn nước...).
- Ban hành Sổ tay hướng dẫn về các công nghệ cấp nước hộ gia đình giá thành hạ, an toàn, thân thiện với môi trường và phù hợp với các vùng miền.
- Phối hợp với các NGOs xây dựng kế hoạch hình thành chuỗi cung ứng các dịch vụ cấp nước và vệ sinh hộ gia đình sử dụng vật liệu tại chỗ; tạo điều kiện thuận lợi để phát triển các doanh nghiệp nhỏ tham gia chuỗi cung ứng này.

1. Improving the efficiency of project management towards sustainability
- to organize training courses for provinces to manage and operate the water supply schemes managed by the community.
