5.Nước đi (di chuyển) MÃ:
MÃ đi hình chữ L, theo đường đi ngang một ô và dọc hai ô

Hoặc đi theo đường đi dọc một ô và ngang hai ô.

MÃ là quân duy nhất trên bàn cờ đi mà không bị cản bởi bất kỳ quân nào.

Ở hình bên, quân Mã có thể di chuyển đến các ô c2 hoặc d3 hoặc f3 hoặc g2.

Khi bắt đầu ván cờ, mỗi bên có 2 MÃ.

6.Nước đi (di chuyển) TỐT:

Tốt đi thẳng tiến về phía trước miễn là không bị chặn

Ở nước đi đầu tiên, TỐT có thể đi được một ô hoặc hai ô.

Sau khi đã di chuyển khỏi vị trí ban đầu thì
TỐT chỉ được đi từng ô một mà thôi.

Khi bắt đầu ván cờ, mỗi bên có 8 TỐT.

Trong bàn cờ, TỐT là quân yếu nhất nhưng tiềm ẩn sức mạnh vô cùng lớn. Khi TỐT tiến tới hàng ngang cuối cùng của đối phương thì được phong cấp thành một trong các quân Hậu hoặc Xe hoặc Tượng hoặc Mã cùng màu và sở hữu sức mạnh của các quân cờ đó.
