Trước hết, toàn cầu hóa giúp khoa học và công nghệ Việt Nam từng bước hội nhập, giao lưu với nền khoa học công nghệ của thế giới, tạo thuận lợi cho Việt Nam học tập kinh nghiệm, tiếp thu những thành tựu khoa học công nghệ thế giới phục vụ cho sự phát triển của kinh tế- xã hội của đất nước. Việc chuyển giao các dây chuyền công nghệ, khoa học tiên tiến của thế giới vào từng ngành nghề, lĩnh vực cụ thể ở Việt Nam như: Công nghệ sản xuất ô tô (Nhà máy ô tô Trường Hải tiếp nhận dây chuyền chuyển giao của Hyundai về sản xuất ô tô), công nghệ sản xuất thiết bị di động cầm tay, chip và các sản phẩm viễn thông (Samsung Việt Nam), các công nghệ ứng dụng trong lĩnh vực nông nghiệp công nghệ cao (Công nghệ tưới nhỏ giọt theo tiêu chuẩn Israel), công nghệ xây dựng cầu đường và đặc biệt công nghệ thông tin trong các ngành dịch vụ tài chính, ngân hàng đã góp phần đưa các ngành này từng bước tiếp cận và đạt đến trình độ của thế giới.
