Mọi người đều có kĩ năng tư duy, nhưng không phải ai cũng dùng nó một cách có hiệu quả. Kĩ năng tư duy có hiệu quả khó đạt được ngay nhưng có thể phát triển dần dần. Hiện nay tình trạng học sinh chúng ta thụ động trong việc lĩnh hội kiến thức ở nhà trường vẫn còn phổ biến. Các em lười tìm tòi, tư duy, mở rộng kiến thức mặc dù các em đang sống trong xã hội hiện đại biến đổi rất nhanh với sự bùng nổ thông tin, khoa học, kĩ thuật, công nghệ. Chính vì vậy nhiều phương pháp dạy học tích cực ra đời nhằm thu hút học sinh vào các hoạt động học tập do giáo viên tổ chức và chỉ đạo, thông qua đó giúp học sinh tự khám phá những điều mình chưa rõ chứ không phải thụ động tiếp thu những tri thức đã được giáo viên sắp đặt. Với những phương pháp dạy học tích cực theo kiểu học sinh tự giải quyết vấn đề theo cách suy nghĩ của mình, từ đó nắm được kiến thức kĩ năng mới không rập theo những khuôn mẫu sẵn có bộc lộ được tiềm năng sáng tạo thì giáo viên không chỉ đơn giản hơn truyền đạt kiến thức mà còn hướng dẫn cho học sinh phương pháp tư duy, tìm tòi tự học.
