Thu thập số liệu về bệnh viêm gan vi rút ở nước ta theo hệ thống giám sát thường quy chỉ phản ánh được số bệnh nhân viêm gan do vi rút đến nhập viện mà không phân loại được được theo chủng vi rút gây viêm gan. Vì thế số liệu này chỉ ghi nhận được số người mắc viêm gan tại bệnh viện mà không phản ánh được số hiện nhiễm hoặc đã từng nhiễm tại cộng đồng đối với từng loại vi rút viêm gan để từ đó xác định các hoạt động ưu tiên trong dự phòng viêm gan vi rút.
