Nhật Bản luôn là quốc gia có quy mô đầu tư FDI ra bên ngoài rất lớn trên thế giới, đặc biệt là những năm gần đây. Số liệu của UNCTAD cho thấy kể từ năm 2011 đến nay, Nhật Bản đã đầu tư ra bên ngoài mỗi năm trên 100 tỉ USD, năm 2013 đạt mức cao nhất là gần 140 tỉ USD. Quy mô đầu tư ra nước ngoài của Nhật Bản các năm 2013 và 2014 lần lượt là 135,7 tỷ USD và 113,6 tỷ USD. Theo Báo cáo đầu tư toàn cầu 2015 của UNCTAD, Nhật Bản hiện là nước đứng thứ 4 trong số 20 nền kinh tế có mức đầu tư nước ngoài lớn nhất trên thế giới. Lượng vốn đầu tư ra nước ngoài trong hai năm 2013 và 2014 của Nhật Bản chiếm lần lượt 10,4% và 8,4% tổng lượng vốn đầu tư ra nước ngoài của thế giới. Xu hướng đẩy mạnh đầu tư ra bên ngoài hiện nay của các công ty Nhật Bản về cả quy mô vốn đầu tư và tốc độ tăng vốn đầu tư là rất đáng chú ý.

The scale of investment abroad of Japan the 2013 and 2014 is 135.7 billion and 113.6 billion. According to the report global 2015 investment of UNCTAD, Japan is currently the fourth-largest of the 20 economies had the largest foreign investment in the world. The amount invested abroad in two years 2013 and 2014 of Japan accounted for 10.4% and 8.4% respectively of the amount of overseas investment in the world. The trend to promote outward investment of Japanese companies on both the scale and speed of investment increased capital is very noticeable.
