Mặc dù đầu tháng 3 năm 2014, cơ quan quản lý Nhà nước (NHNN Việt Nam) mới có văn bản quy định chính thức về lộ trình trêển khai Basel 2, theo đó BIDV là NHTM được lựa chọn phải triển khai tuân thủ các quy định về an toàn theo các phương pháp tiêu chuẩn của Basel 2 từ cuối năm 2015 và tiến tới áp dụng theo phương pháp nâng cao của Basel 2 từ năm 2018, tuy nhiên BIDV đã chủ động nghiên cứu, triển khai và tuân thủ Basel 2 từ những năm trước đó.
