Thông tin trên được GS.TS. Lê Quang Cường, Thứ trưởng Bộ Y tế Việt Nam ,báo cáo tại Hội nghị Khu vực Tây Thái Bình Dương của Tổ chức Y tế Thế giới (WHO) lần thứ 65 diễn ra từ ngày 3-17/10/2014 tại Manila, Philippines.
Tại hội nghị, Việt Nam chia sẻ một số thành công nổi bật mà Việt Nam đạt được trong năm qua như: Việt Nam được cộng đồng quốc tế đánh giá là một trong 10 quốc gia đang trong đúng lộ trình thực hiện thành công Mục tiêu Phát triển Thiên niên kỷ số 4 (giảm tỷ lệ tử vong mẹ) và số 5 (giảm tỷ lệ tử vong trẻ dưới 5 tuổi) (Báo cáo của Diễn đàn Nhóm đối tác về sức khỏe phụ nữ và trẻ em tại Nam Phi, 6/2014).
Cụ thể trong 20 năm qua, tỷ lệ tử vong ở phụ nữ mang thai và trẻ sơ sinh tại Việt Nam có chiều hướng giảm. Tỷ lệ phụ nữ mang thai tử vong đã giảm từ 233/100.000 ca vào năm 1990 xuống còn 61,9/100.000 ca vào năm 2013 (giảm xuống hơn ba lần) và tỷ lệ trẻ dưới năm tuổi tử vong giảm từ 59/1.000 trẻ xuống còn 23/1.000 trẻ (giảm hơn hai lần). Số trẻ dưới một tuổi giảm tỷ lệ tử vong từ 44,4/1.000 trẻ xuống còn 15,3/1.000 trẻ. Ngoài ra, số trẻ dưới 5 tuổi bị suy dinh dưỡng cũng giảm từ 41% xuống còn 15,3%.
Việt Nam cũng đã thông qua Luật Bảo hiểm Y tế sửa đổi vào tháng 6/2014 với một số điểm mới như quy định bắt buộc tham gia bảo hiểm y tế, tham gia bảo hiểm y tế theo hộ gia đình, mở rộng quyền lợi bảo hiểm và mức thưởng, phân tuyến khám chữa bệnh. Đây được được coi như một trong những cột mốc đánh dấu quá trình hướng đến bao phủ y tế toàn dân ở Việt Nam. Bên cạnh đó, Việt Nam cũng đã đạt được các năng lực tối thiểu theo yêu cầu của Điều lệ Y tế Quốc tế (IHR), trên cơ sở áp dụng Chiến lược Châu Á Thái Bình Dương về phòng chống các bệnh truyền nhiễm mới nổi của Tổ chức Y tế Thế giới (APSED).

Information on is GS.TS. Le Quang Cuong, Vice Minister of the Ministry of health, Vietnam reported at the regional Conference for the Western Pacific of the World Health Organization (WHO) 65th place from October 3-17/10/2014 in Manila, Philippines.At the meeting, Vietnam share some success striking that Vietnam achieved over the past year as: Vietnam is the international community as one of the 10 countries that are in the right pathway to successfully implement Millennium development goal 4 (reducing maternal mortality) and 5 (reducing child mortality under 5 years of age) (the report of the Forum Group for cooperation of the health of women and children in South Africa 6/2014).In the past 20 years, the rate of death in pregnant women and infants in Vietnam has tended to decrease. The rate of mortality of pregnant women declined from 233/100,000 in 1990 to 61.9 per 100,000 by the year 2013 (dropped more than three times) and the rate of children below five years old mortality decreased from 59 per 1,000 children to 23/1,000 children (reduced more than twice). Number of children under an age of rising death rates from 44.4 per 1,000 children to 15.3 per 1,000 children. In addition, the number of children under age 5 suffer from malnutrition also dropped from 41% to 15.3%.Vietnam also adopted the revised Health Insurance Act in June 2014, with a number of new point as the compulsory health insurance, join a health insurance under household, extended benefits and bonus levels, distributed online clinical practice. It is regarded as one of the milestones mark the process toward full health coverage in Vietnam. Besides, Vietnam has also achieved the minimum capacity required by the international health regulations (IHR), on the basis of applying the strategy Asia Pacific about the prevention of emerging infectious diseases of the World Health Organization (APSED).
