Xử lý đất bằng Vibasu hoặc Furadan 3H để trừ sâu xám, côn trùng gây hại hạt và cây con. Phòng trừ sâu đục thân bằng cách rắc Furadan hoặc Vibasu lên loa kèn (lá ngọn) cây ngô từ 4 – 6 hạt giai đoạn 30 – 40 ngày sau gieo.
