từ năm 2002 đến 2007, đô la hóa có xu hướng giảm trở lại nhờ lợi tức của VND hấp dẫn hơn ngoại tệ, mức biến động của tỷ giá không lớn (tỷ giá chỉ tăng khoảng trên 6% trong vòng 5 năm từ 2002 - 2007 nhờ cung ngoại tệ dồi dào, nhất là cung ngoại tệ từ việc thu hút vốn nước ngoài); từ năm 2008 đến nay, mức độ đô la hóa khá ổn định (khoảng 20%). Đánh giá nguyên nhân tại sao mức độ đô la hóa không tiếp tục giảm như giai đoạn trước là do thời kỳ này lạm phát đã tăng cao trở lại, tỷ giá có sức ép tăng, lãi suất ngoại tệ tăng cao.
