Chile được chia thành 15 vùng (región), mỗi khu có Giám vùng đứng đầu do Tổng thống bổ nhiệm. Mỗi vùng lại được chia thành các tỉnh (provencia), đứng đầu là Tỉnh trưởng cũng do tổng thống bổ nhiệm. Cấp hành chính nhỏ nhất là xã (comuna); mỗi xã có thị trưởng và nghị viên hội đồng xã do cư dân xã bầu ra với nhiệm kỳ bốn năm
