Thống kê tình hình sinh viên tốt nghiệp có việc làm trong năm học 2011-2012 và 2012-2013 của nhiều trường ĐH lớn trên địa bàn TP.HCM cho thấy, tỉ lệ sinh viên theo học ngành “hot” ra trường thất nghiệp, hoặc làm việc trái ngành rất cao.

Đơn cử, Trường ĐH Kinh tế – Luật (ĐHQG TP.HCM), năm học 2011-2012, có 203 sinh viên tốt nghiệp ngành Tài chính ngân hàng, sau một năm làm việc chỉ có 54 sinh viên tìm được việc làm đúng chuyên ngành, 56 sinh viên làm không đúng chuyên ngành, số sinh viên còn lại chưa có việc làm hoặc rất khó khăn để tìm việc đúng chuyên ngành, việc có mức lương như mong muốn.

Đến năm học 2012-2013, con số này còn thấp hơn hẳn. Cụ thể: trong 224 sinh viên tốt nghiệp chỉ có 25 sinh viên tìm được việc đúng chuyên ngành, 17 sinh viên có việc làm không đúng chuyên ngành, 182 sinh viên còn lại chưa có việc làm.

Tương tự, được đánh là ngành học “hot” nhất của Ban xã hội, thu hút một lượng lớn thí sinh dự thi, ngành Báo chí và Truyền thông của trường ĐH KHXH&NV – ĐHQG TP.HCM trong hai năm học qua sinh viên tốt nghiệp tìm được việc làm đúng chuyên ngành sau một năm ra trường đạt tỉ lệ chưa tới 10% tổng số sinh viên tốt nghiệp. Cụ thể, năm học 2011-2012, trong 127 sinh viên tốt nghiệp ngành này, chỉ có 12 sinh viên tìm được việc làm đúng chuyên ngành. Sang năm học 2012-2013, con số này vẫn không được cải thiện khi chỉ có 11 sinh viên tốt nghiệp tìm được việc làm đúng chuyên ngành trong tổng số 127 sinh viên tốt nghiệp cùng khóa.
