Tính cá nhân và tính tập thể có nghĩa là văn hóa đó đánh giá một cá thể theo cá nhân người đó hay theo việc anh ta thuộc nhóm người nào (VD: thành phần gia đình, nghề nghiệp…). Trong các xã hội theo chủ nghĩa cá nhân, mối quan hệ giữa con người tương đối lỏng lẻo, mỗi người có xu hướng chỉ quan tâm đến lợi ích của bản thân mình. Những xã hội này ưa thích tính cá nhân hơn sự đoàn kết tập thể. Cạnh tranh là tiêu chuẩn và ai cạnh tranh tốt nhất sẽ giành được phần thưởng.

In societies as individualism, the relationship between people is relatively loose, each person tends to only care about the benefit of myself. The society has preferred the more personal than collective solidarity. The rival standard and who the best competition will win the reward.
