Theo dự thảo đổi mới của Bộ GD-ĐT, kỳ thi tốt nghiệp THPT sẽ chỉ còn 4 môn, trong đó hai môn thi bắt buộc là Ngữ văn, Toán. Hai môn còn lại sẽ do thí sinh tự chọn trong số các môn: Vật lý, Hóa học, Sinh học, Địa lý và Lịch sử.Học sinh có thể đăng ký thi Ngoại ngữ để được cộng điểm khuyến khích vào điểm xét tốt nghiệp. Dự kiến mức điểm cộng sẽ là: đạt 9,0 điểm trở lên được cộng 2,0 điểm; 7,0 điểm trở lên cộng 1,5 điểm; 5,0 điểm trở lên được cộng 1,0 điểm.
