Vua Khải Định tên là Nguyễn Phúc Bử

Vua Khải Định tên là Nguyễn Phúc Bửu Đảo, còn có tên là Tuấn, con trưởng của vua Đồng Khánh và bà Dương Thị Thục (Hựu Thiên Thuần Hoàng hậu), sinh ngày 1 tháng 9 năm Ất Dậu (8-10-1885).
Vua Đồng Khánh mất, Hoàng tử Bửu Đảo còn ít tuổi (4 tuổi) nên không được chọn làm vua. Đến năm 1916, sau khi vua Duy Tân bị Pháp đưa đi đày ở Réunion, triều đình Huế và người Pháp mới lập Bửu Đảo lên ngôi vua vào ngày 18-5-1916, lấy niên hiệu là Khải Định.
Vua Khải Định ở ngôi được 10 năm thì bị bệnh nặng và mất vào ngày 20 tháng 9 năm Ất Sửu (6-11-1925), thọ 41 tuổi.
Sau khi chết, bài vị nhà vua được đưa vào thờ trong Thế Miếu và có Miếu hiệu là Hoằng Tông Tuyên Hoàng đế.
Vua Khải Định chỉ có một con trai là Hoàng tử Vĩnh Thụy (vua Bảo Đại).
