Festival Huế 2000 diễn ra 12 ngày đêm, với sự tham gia của trên 30 đơn vị nghệ thuật của Việt Nam và Pháp với trên 1000 nghệ sĩ, diễn viên chuyên nghiệp và không chuyên nghiệp, thu hút hơn 410.000 lượt người tham dự Festival, trong đó có 41.000 lượt khách du lịch, với 6000 lượt khách quốc tế... Đây thực sự là ngày hội văn hóa, nghệ thuật và du lịch có quy mô quốc gia và quốc tế, một đợt tổng diễn tập hoạt động giao lưu có tính chính trị, ngoại giao, kinh tế, văn hóa, thúc đẩy sự hồi sinh của tỉnh Thừa Thiên Huế sau cơn lũ lịch sử năm 1999, phát huy được lợi thế so sánh của tỉnh Thừa Thiên Huế trên lĩnh vực văn hóa - du lịch.
