Với ý tưởng xây dựng Nha Trang thành một thành phố Hòa bình và Sáng tạo, nơi gặp gỡ, đối thoại để hướng đến hòa bình, thịnh vượng nhân loại, cùng với Nha Trang - Khánh Hòa vùng đất hiền hòa, nhân văn, hiếu học, con người thân thiện, hiếu khách, từ đó Giáo sư John Quelch đã đưa ra sáng kiến kết nối Nha Trang - Khánh Hòa với Boston, Massachusetts; sáng kiến tổ chức Tọa đàm khoa học quốc tế “Phát triển bền vững kinh tế biển” nhân kỷ niệm 20 năm bình thường hóa quan hệ giữa Việt Nam – Hoa Kỳ.
