Trẻ em Châu Á bị bệnh nhiều hơn Châu Âu ( tỷ lệ 6:1 ). Trẻ em Châu Phi ít bị hơn, nhưng nếu trẻ em da đen bị bệnh hội chứng thận hư tiên phát thì thường bị kháng Steroid. Bệnh thường hay xuất hiện sau nhiễm khuẩn hô hấp cấp và trên cơ địa dị ứng ( chàm, hen..)[23].
