* Tiền thân của Công Ty Dệt May Gia Định là Xí Nghiệp Dệt số 3.Đến năm 1992 công ty được thành lập theo quyết định số 190/QĐ-UB ngày 09/12/1992 của Uy ban Nhân Dân Thành Phố.Đến ngày 09/12/2005. Ủy Ban Nhân Dân Thành Phố đã có Quyết định số 6231/QĐ –UBND về việc tổ chức lại Công Ty Dệt May Gia Định hoạt động theo mô hình Công Ty Mẹ – Công ty Con.

* Mô hình Công ty Mẹ – Công Ty Con là hình thức liên kết và chi phối lẫn nhau bằng đầu tư, góp vốn, bí quyết, công nghệ, thương hiệu và thị trường giữa các doanh nghiệp có tư cách pháp nhân trong đó Công Ty Mẹ Dệt May Gia Định là Công ty nhà nước giữ quyền chi phối các doanh nghiệp thành viên khác là công ty con có phần vốn góp không chi phối vào các Công ty liên kết, Công ty liên doanh. Bao gồm các công ty sau:

I. Công ty mẹ: 100% vốn Nhà nước

II. Công ty con: Công ty Mẹ giữ cổ phần ít nhất 51% vốn điều lệ.
