Thực tiễn cho thấy, chỉ sau 3 năm gia nhập ASEAN, Việt Nam đã chủ trì và tổ chức thành công Hội nghị Cấp cao ASEAN lần thứ 6 (năm 1998), đảm nhiệm thành công vai trò Chủ tịch Ủy ban thường trực ASEAN (ASC) (nhiệm kỳ 2000 - 2001), đóng góp tích cực vào việc mở rộng thành viên của ASEAN (kết nạp các nước Lào, Mi-an-ma, Cam-pu-chia), phát huy vai trò nước điều phối quan hệ đối thoại của ASEAN với các đối tác quan trọng, như: Nga, Mỹ, Ô-xtrây-li-a, Ca-na-đa, Trung Quốc và hiện đang là nước điều phối quan hệ đối thoại ASEAN - EU (nhiệm kỳ 2012 – 2015)

Practice shows that only after three years of joining ASEAN, Vietnam has chaired and hosted the ASEAN Summit session 6 (1998), took charge of the successful role as Chairman of the ASEAN Standing Committee (ASC) (term 2000-2001), contributing actively to the expansion of ASEAN membership (Laos-enrollment Myanmar, ma, Cambodian Cam), promote the role of the country coordinating ASEAN's dialogue with key partners, such as Russia, the us, o-xtrây-li-a, Ca, Canada, China, and is currently the Coordinator of the ASEAN-EU dialogue relationship (the term 2012-2015)

Practice shows that, after only 3 years of joining ASEAN, Vietnam has chaired and organized successful ASEAN Summit 6th (1998), assumed the role of Chairman of the ASEAN Standing Committee ( ASC) (term 2000-2001), contributed positively to the expansion of membership of ASEAN (the admission of Laos, Myanmar Myanmar, Cambodia Cambodia), to promote the role of coordination water ASEAN dialogue relations with important partners, such as Russia, the USA, Australia-li-a, Ca Canada, China and is currently the coordinator country of dialogue relations ASEAN - EU (for period 2012 - 2015)
