The Mist là một câu chuyện nói về hoàn cảnh của một đám người bị mắc kẹt trong khi đi mua sắm tại một siêu thị trong thị trấn. Trong khi đang mua sắm thì bỗng nhiên bên ngoài xuất hiện một lớp sương mù dày đặc bao phủ cả một bầu trời se se lạnh. Trong lớp sương mù ấy là những con quái vật ăn thịt người được biến đổi gien bởi một dự án có tên The Arrowhead của một căn cứ quân đội gần đó. Về đêm các con quái vật ấy đã bắt đầu hành động khiến cho mọi người không thể nghỉ ngơi. Chúng liên tục tấn công không ngừng nghỉ và đã giết hại rất nhiều con người vô tội. Tóm lại đây là một câu chuyện tiểu thuyết có rất nhiều tình huống gay cấn, hết hồn khiến cho người đọc phải suy đoán và cũng có một ít tình huống nhảm nhí. Nhưng suy cho cùng đây cũng chỉ là một câu chuyện về một hoàn cảnh hằng ngày và ta rút ra được bài học ý nghĩa trong cuộc sống ở cuối truyện.
