Với các tín đồ đạo Hồi, tôn kính kinh Koran cao hơn mọi thứ trên đời. Ở một số quốc gia Hồi giáo, người ta lấy kinh Koran để điều chỉnh tất cả các vấn đề của xã hội mà không cần thêm một bộ luật pháp nào khác.

Toàn bộ kinh Koran được Muhammad đọc từ năm 610 đến 632. Sau này được tập hợp lại thành quyển chia 114 chương, 6211 điều.

Các tín đồ không được phép để mở cuốn kinh khi đặt xuống bàn hay không sử dụng nữa, không được ngáp ngủ hay tỏ ra mệt mỏi khi đang đọc kinh. Việc để ngón tay ướt vì nước hay nước bọt để lật các trang của thánh kinh cũng bị coi là có tội.

Các tín đồ cũng không được học và đọc kinh Koran trên máy tính hay điện thoại di động. Trước khi đọc kinh, phải đảm bảo thân thể và tay chân sạch sẽ. Phụ nữ đang trong thời kỳ kinh nguyệt cũng không được khuyến khích đọc kinh. Tất cả quá trình “làm sạch" này gọi là Wudu, nhằm đảm bảo tính thuần khiết của Hồi giáo.

Chính vì vậy, mà cho đến nay, ở một số quốc gia Hồi giáo, người ta lấy kinh Koran để điều chỉnh tất cả các vấn đề của xã hội, mà không cần thêm một bộ luật pháp nào khác. Sở dĩ như vậy là vì họ coi đây là lời của Thánh Ala, nên không được phép thay đổi, sửa chữa và đã là tín đồ Islam thì phải tuyệt đối tuân thủ.

Để tập hợp lực lượng và động viên tín đồ hăng hái chiến đấu, Muhammad đã truyền cho họ niềm tin về những cuộc thánh chiến, những người tử vong vì sự nghiệp bảo vệ chính đạo của Thánh Ala sẽ được lên thiên đường mà đó mới là nơi ở vĩnh hằng của con người.

Nơi đây có những hố đầy lửa, kẻ ác, kẻ có tội sẽ bị đốt cháy, bị đổ dầu sôi… Địa ngục còn là nơi để dành cho những kẻ không có đức tin. Người chết không được phục sinh ngay, mà cứ phải “ngủ” dài, cho tới ngày được Ala phán xét, quyết định cho trở lại làm người.
