Trong các năm qua, Thành phố Hồ Chí Minh luôn có sự quan tâm đặc biệt cho việc phát triển nông nghiệp, nông thôn, với nhiều chương trình, đề án như: xây dựng nông thôn mới, tái cơ cấu ngành nông nghiệp đô thị; quy hoạch phát triển nông nghiệp ứng dụng công nghệ cao, phát triển các kênh phân phối, tiêu thụ sản phẩm để hỗ trợ cho bà con nông dân, tổ hợp tác, hợp tác xã và các doanh nghiệp hoạt động trong lĩnh vực nông nghiệp trên địa bàn Thành phố. Trong đó, việc đầu tư phát triển Khu Nông nghiệp Công nghệ cao tại xã Phạm Văn Cội, huyện Củ Chi; Trung tâm Công nghệ Sinh học tại Phường Tân Mỹ Tây, quận 12; Trại trình diễn và thực nghiệm chăn nuôi bò sữa công nghệ cao tại xã Phạm Văn Hai, huyện Bình Chánh; các chương trình, đề án của Tổng Công ty Nông nghiệp Sài Gòn TNHH MTV, cũng như việc hợp tác phát triển nông nghiệp kỹ thuật cao với các đối tác Nhật Bản, Israel, Hà Lan, Hàn Quốc, Đài Loan,….đã đạt được những thành tựu đáng kể, góp phần chuyển giao tiến bộ khoa học kỹ thuật cao trong sản xuất nông nghiệp cho nông dân tại Thành phố Hồ Chí Minh và các tỉnh thành.
