Kiến Phúc tên là Nguyễn Phúc Ưng Đă

Kiến Phúc tên là Nguyễn Phúc Ưng Đăng, con thứ 3 của Kiên Thái Vương Nguyễn Phúc Hồng Cai và bà Bùi Thị Thanh. Ưng Đăng sinh ngày 2 tháng Giêng năm Kỷ Tỵ (12-2-1869). Năm 1870 lúc được 2 tuổi, Ưng Đăng được vua Tự Đức nhận làm con nuôi và giao cho bà Học Phi Nguyễn Thị Hương trông coi, dạy bảo.
Sau khi vua Hiệp Hòa bị phế truất, vào ngày 2-12-1883, Ưng Đăng (15 tuổi) được đưa lên ngôi vua và đặt niên hiệu là Kiến Phúc. Vua Kiến Phúc ở ngôi được 8 tháng thì mất vào ngày 10 tháng 6 năm Giáp Thân (31-7-1884) lúc mới 16 tuổi.
Sau khi mất, bài vị vua Kiến Phúc được đưa vào thờ trong Thế Miếu và có Miếu hiệu là Giản Tông Nghị Hoàng đế.
