Mức lương cơ sở: là mức lương áp dụng đối với cán bộ, công chức, viên chức, người hưởng lương, phụ cấp và người lao động làm việc trong các cơ quan, tổ chức, đơn vị sự nghiệp của Đảng, Nhà nước, tổ chức chính trị-xã hội có tính chất đặc thù ở Trung ương; ở tỉnh, thành phố trực thuộc Trung ương; ở quận, huyện, thị xã, thành phố thuộc tỉnh (cấp huyện); ở xã, phường, thị trấn (cấp xã) và lực lượng vũ trang. (Theo Nghị định số 66/2013/NĐ-CP ngày 14/5/2014 của Chính phủ).
Từ ngày 01/05/2016, mức lương cơ sở theo sẽ tăng 5% từ 1.150.000 như hiện nay lên 1.210.000 đồng/tháng (tương đương tăng 60.000 đồng/tháng) theo Nghị quyết về dự toán Ngân sách năm 2016 đã được Quốc hội thông qua ngày 11/11/2015. Mức lương cơ sở được điều chỉnh trên cơ sở khả năng Ngân sách, chỉ số giá tiêu dùng và tốc độ tăng trưởng kinh tế của đất nước.

Mức lương cơ bản: là lương cho chủ doanh nghiệp thỏa thuận với người lao động, dùng để đóng các khoản bảo hiểm, mức lương này không được thấp hơn mức tối thiểu vùng.
Đối với người lao động có 2 hợp đồng lao động trở lên thì đóng BHXH, BHTN theo hợp đồng lao động giao kết đầu tiên, đóng BHYT theo hợp đồng lao động có mức lương cao nhất.
Mức tiền lương tháng đóng BHXH, BHYT bắt buộc tối đa bằng 20 tháng lương cơ sở; mức tiền lương tháng đóng BHTN tối đa bằng 20 tháng lương tối thiểu vùng.
Thời hạn nộp tiền BHXH, BHYT, BHTN: đóng hằng tháng; 3 hoặc 6 tháng; đóng theo địa bàn
