Trước Tết, người việt nam cần phải trả lại tất cả những điều mà họ đã vay mượn từ những người khác và trả tất cả các khoản nợ mà họ còn nợ. Người ta tin rằng những người không bao giờ nên bắt đầu một năm mới với các khoản nợ và những thứ vay mượn; nếu không thì trong năm đó mọi người sẽ bị mắc kẹt với các khoản nợ.
