Một trong những mục tiêu của các chương trình phát triển kinh tế - xã hội ở TP Đà Nẵng là hướng sự quan tâm tới các đối tượng nghèo, trong đó đặc biệt chú trọng phụ nữ nghèo, có hoàn cảnh khó khăn. Vì thế, việc hỗ trợ phát triển kinh tế, tạo việc làm, tăng thu nhập đã trở thành một mục đích hoạt động của Hội Phụ nữ thành phố trong những năm qua. Với sự giúp đỡ của các cấp ủy đảng và chính quyền, nhiều mô hình phát triển kinh tế gia đình được áp dụng và mang lại hiệu quả kinh tế cao, giúp chị em thoát nghèo.


Theo khảo sát mới nhất, đến đầu năm 2009, TP Đà Nẵng có 32.769 hộ nghèo theo chuẩn mới, chiếm tỷ lệ 19,26% tổng số hộ dân cư. Tính đến tháng 5-2009, toàn TP Đà Nẵng có khoảng 4.637 lượt hộ nghèo (40.891 lượt hộ khó khăn), 58,701% số lượt người nghèo (186.952 lượt người khó khăn) đã được trợ giúp bằng nhiều giải pháp và có 2.771 hộ vươn lên thoát nghèo, trong đó có 2.249 hộ do phụ nữ làm chủ hộ.
